Airports
Three good options, all about the same kind of drive. Rent a car; you’ll want one up here.
Asheville (AVL)
The scenic route in. A smaller airport with easy rentals, then a genuinely beautiful drive west through the mountains.
Chattanooga (CHA)
Small, calm, and quick to get out of. From there it’s a straight run east into the mountains.
Greenville–Spartanburg (≈ 2.5 hrs), Knoxville (≈ 2 hrs), and Charlotte (≈ 3.5 hrs) can work too, if that’s where the cheap flight is.
